In one of my previous articles I focused a bit on the lifestyle I lead. I am totally aware that I am not the only person pursuing a gothic lifestyle. It is hard for all goths to lead this lifestyle sometimes; I wrote before about receiving abuse in the street, getting stares etc. However I have never (thankfully) been violently attacked because of how I choose to look.
I agreed with Shauna that this article would go in around the anniversary of the time in 2007 that Sophie Lancaster was attacked in a skate park, and when she died from her injuries two weeks later. You can find a link to the story of the case, and information about the foundation, at the bottom of this post.
I also discovered a S.O.P.H.I.E group exists on Second Life, which I was quick to join. I think it’s really important that the foundation and the case are given more exposure. I used to bring up Sophie in conversation in SL, and I was surprised to find out that absolutely no-one knew who she was or about the incident.
So, it’s my hope that that with this post I will bring the story to a wider audience.
