SLURL: What it is and How to Make One

Contributed by Shana Skye

What is a SLURL?

A SLURL is the Second Life equivalent to a URL, being a link or landmark to where you want to go in Second Life. A SLURL is handy if you want to send an IM to a group of people to tell them a location. They can click the SLURL rather than having to request a teleport from you, and it will bring the map up for them along with the option to teleport.

How do I make a SLURL?

You can make a SLURL by being at the location you want, then clicking on the map button at the bottom menu. The map will come up with a button that says “copy SLURL to clipboard.” Once you copy it you can paste the SLURL into the IM or onto your site like SLFIX.com does.

How do I get a SLURL from someone’s profile?

If you find someone who has an interesting place listed in their profile picks click “show on map” and this will bring you to the map where you can copy the SLURL.
