Happy Halloween

BY EDITOR SHAUNA SKYE

Happy Halloween everyone! I’m certain today will prove even more interesting than usual in Second Life, with many people running around a bit different from their regular self. Funny, if you think about it. For many of us, every day in Second Life is like Halloween. Nearly anything goes already! And yet we grow used to seeing vampires, furries, nekos, fairies, dragons . . . .  For the people who already wear stuff like this, Halloween must be anticlimactic.

Some of us still go around as plain human, though, and this gives us an excuse to deck out. Not that I need much of an excuse. While I never think of myself as dressing in a costume, even I wear things I wouldn’t in first life (not publically, anyway). In SL I can get away with donning Japanese Lolita fashion, but since I’m not a 16 year old girl from the streets of Japan, I’d look like a nutter if I strolled to the grocery store like that in first life.

Need a slight change today though, it being Halloween and all. So I’m really switching things up — living on the edge. Today I’m going to be Red Riding Hood!

I can almost hear some of you groaning. Hey, I know Red Riding Hood is not too far of a stretch from the usual, but at least I get to carry around a basket of goodies. Last time I wore the outfit was at Soul Mods Halloween party on Friday, and people kept asking for the stuff in my basket. They were convinced I had trippy mushrooms in there. Not that I did but, even so, they’d have taken them all and left none for poor Gramdma . . .  (I can feel myself already getting into character).

If you do a search for Halloween or Haunted you will find loads of stuff in Second Life. I’m not going to attempt to list things. I have to admit, been too busy (and too lazy) to research this year. However, will give a plug to some nice people at The Hangout club who are having a spooky retro Halloween dance party from 1:00-3:30 SLT. Maybe will see you there!

Every day really is costume day in SL, but Halloween really seems to bring the wilder side out in people. I wrote about the Flesh Game, which made co-creator Ivey Deschanel a hostess for Linden Labs’ Halloween Forum last week. I would mention that friend Kikiri Tuqiri has a neat Haunted Tunnel on her sim. So many places to visit, so little time! Enjoy as much as you can till next year.
