The Second Life Masquerade
As we talk and as I type, all you that you see is all that I want you to see
All that you know about me, is all that I want you to know about me
The laughter that we share and the good times that we have are all but illusions
And it is you that succumbs to the illusion, and it is I that knows the reality
I dress as you want to see me dressed and I look to be smiling but you don’t know the reality.
Behind the smile there could be tears, behind the laughter there could be cries and
Although I say I’m alright, and although I say I’m having a great time, it is not the truth,
And it is not the truth because you cannot touch it and you don’t feel the pain because you cannot see it.
No matter how much we know and no matter how much we care, we can never see the tears behind the painted smile.

Last weekend I thinking about how much of our first life we actually share with others and perhaps even though someone appears to be smiling it could in essence be a fake smile when in actual fact they may be crying…and it kind of inspired this piece.

Makes me think of my Truth and Consequences article, way back when … http://moonletters.com/?p=2312 There’s a true self and false self potential in first life, too.
