Alidar Moxie has taken her Mutating Plant Life to a whole new level with her latest creation. That plant was able to change its flowers shapes and textures at intervals of hour, day, or week via a script-driven menu. This new plant, Seymour, depends on you to feed and water it. It has its own genetic code with thousands of possibilities making it highly likely that you will have a one-of-a-kind plant once it’s grown. Should that be the case, the plant will IM you in SL and give you the opportunity to give it a species name! (If not unique, you will be informed of the species name in a similar fashion.)

I sneaked into Alidar's secret lab to get an early picture of this developing project.

After four days of care, your plant will be fully grown and continue to need care but it will also give you a sprout. You can choose to keep and grow the sprout or … give it to a friend! The sprout or what Ali calls the spawn of the original plant will not respawn. You can re-pot your plant and it will grow into something else and you will lose all information about the previous version of the plant. And you need to be careful … over- or underfeeding your plant will affect its growth rate.

Rest assured, the documentation for these plants–I gave a very small editorial tweak here and there–are almost worth the price of the plant with the utter thoroughness in covering the maintenance of your plant as well as the abundant dry wit with which Ali wrote them!

That would certainly be cool enough for most creators but Ali has taken this one more step. Not only can your plant communicate with you via IM in SL but you can set it up to contact you via Twitter, Plurk, or both! I include a link to Seymour’s Plurk timeline to illustrate that it can be done as well as some of the things the plants are scripted to communicate. Imagine having a plant that you have named gaining Karma on Plurk!

Amazing and so utterly charming, these plants should become the next rage in SL!
