soulboy_004Mod fashion relies heavily on retro design and as I have roamed the grid I discovered as with most trends that’s pretty straight forward if you’re a hip young girlie thing; there’s a raft of specialists shops providing you with everything from a nineteen fifties bobbysocks ensemble or hippy chic right into a Marry Quant inspired piece of pop art magnificence. But what happens if you’re a geezer?

Well sorry to break it to you fellah, but us geezers are pretty much left to our own devices. To an extent this is our own fault. The culture of freebie denims and t-shirt that pervades male virtual fashion means many designers just do not see male fashion as a worthwhile enterprise. Girls shop . . . blokes well, they just @rse about. However do not lose faith entirely as there are some dedicated mod items out there and some fine design items that have the modernist feel about them and will give you a cool mod look.

Okay lets start at the bottom, shoes: either classic Italian loafer style or the casuals inspired NeoMod retro trainers. For the former it’s hard to beat the FKNY shoe range, and if you’re looking for killer trainers [sneakers to our colonial cousins] then my choice would be either Hoorenbeek or Soreal. These are not cheap options but as my old dad says you need a good pair of shoes on yer feet lad.

Next up, you need to get covered up so it’s jeans or pants. I love the white jeans I snapped up from the unknown boutique–white jeans being an iconic mod item from the sixties. Check those retro photographs and there’s a plethora of white jeaned faces. You want to be cool, get some white jeans, preferably with tight prim cuffs. You’re looking for a more uptown look . . . head to Armodi. They have some great trousers [pants] on sale that scream retro mod at you.

Alongside this you’ll need a shirt or two. I adore my classic Fred Perry polos from FS Designs that come in a range of colours; also I would fail to survive without my trusty Josef white shirt couple with thin black tie, but the Unknown Boutique or Meriken supply wonderful shirts with a true retro feel to them. And, to finish off you need a jacket, again that accidental mod oasis Unknown Boutique has a great jacket plus some uber cool boating blazers to help you blend with the faces on the grid. If that’s not to your taste I cannot recommend the jackets at Meriken highly enough; you want retro mod, get there and take your pick.

Once you have made your choices look for that short cropped prim hair and some cool shades and you’re ready to join the rest of the faces at the Soul Mods Mecca.

But Albion you mod gorgeousity [is that a real word, it is now] what are you wearing? Blimey, you want all my secrets. Check Aoharu for this prim masterpiece.

I’ll check out some of these places, even if for guys. Also, I notice you list fnky cake. That’s the only place in Second Life I could find proper skin to suit me.

You can be forgiven for leaving out Bryce Design Group for their wonderful hairstyles for men! And I love the unisex short hairstyles that fit women, too! The url is:
